Membership Info
Thank you for you interest in the Springfield RC Club. Whether you're new to RC flying, an occasional RC weekend warrior, or a regular (as in, I gotta get my fix at least weekly), This club probably has what you're looking for.
For newbies, we can offer you cost free initial training intended to get you to the point where you're comfortable and capable of controlling your own aircraft. This can be accomplished through a combination of both self conducted simulator training and buddy box training with an instructor. When you demonstrate satisfactory progress, you will be cleared to fly solo provided:
1. You're a Club member
2. You're an AMA member
3. You continue to comply with Club and AMA rules, which basically means you agree to fly in a safe manner
We do not expect you to pay membership dues to either the Club or AMA until you've had at least a couple flights with an instructor. We want you to be sure you want to join before you lay out your cash.
The Springfield RC Club is one of the few clubs that actually owns the field we fly on. Annual dues are collected to help maintain our field and keep our facilities in the best possible condition. Funds are needed seed the field, mow the grass, and satisfy dozens of other requirements.
Last year we completed several self help projects, including the installation of a 300' GeoTech runway and the routing of city electric power into our clubhouse. So the dues are needed to literally keep the lights on. Fortunately, we have several members who are handy with tools, including heavy equipment. We'll designate a few voluntary work days throughout the year to improve our facilities. In this way we're able to stretch our resources to get the most out of your dues. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, you can get as involved as you like.
AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) membership is required.
